According to the legend, Prahlada, son of Asura Hiranyakashyap, was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, but this thing did not like Hiranyakashyap at all. He assigned the child Prahlada with devotion to God to his sister Holika, who had the boon that fire could not burn her body.
To kill Bhaktaraja Prahlada, Holika entered into the fire with him on her lap; but Holika herself burnt herself in the fire; as a result of Prahlad's devotion and grace of God. In the fire, there had no damage to Prahlad's body. Thus, the Holi festival began to celebrate; as the victory of good over evil.

Holashtak Katha:
Holashtak considers, from the Ashtami to the full moon date of the Shukla Paksha of Phalgun month. Holashtak is said to be; 8 days before Holi Dahan.
This time it will be Holashtak from 22 March 2021 to 28 March 2021. This year Holika Dahan will be performed on March 28, and the next day the Holi with colors will be played. Let's know the legend of Holashtak.

1. According to the first story, the devotee Prahlada was tortured and distressed by his father Hiranyakashyap; for 8 consecutive days to dissolve his son's devotion and grab his attention towards him.
Therefore, it is said that no auspicious work of any kind should be done in these 8 days of Holashtak. These 8 days are the days of Holashtak. When Prahlada survives only after Holika Dahan, Holi of colors got to celebrate on the second day in the joy of saving his life.

2. According to the second story, when Lord Shiva is consumed by his third eye to Kamdev due to disturbing the penance of Lord Shiva at the behest of the gods; then Kamadeva's wife asks Shivji to revive him.
Seeing the devotion of Rati, Lord Shiva gives Kamdev the promise of meeting Rati again in his second birth on this day. Kamadeva is later born in the form of Pradyumna to Shri Krishna.

What to do in Holashtak 2021:

After these poles are purified with Ganga Water around these poles, Dung Stems, Wood, Grass, and other items of burning are collected and enlarged slowly. And finally, on the day, Holika Dahan is burnt.
